Paper tracing the history of the airport and air training facilities established in College Park, Maryland, in 1909. Initial instruction to pilots at the College Park field was provided by the Wright brothers. This paper also contains information on early aviation firms operating out of College Park, including Rex Smith Aviation and Washington Aerospace companies. Van Allen's paper, prepared as part of initiation into Phi Mu, an engineering honor society, also includes illustrations.
